Anthropic's Messages API now offers message threads in beta (header message-threads-2026-08-12), letting long conversations and agent loops keep conversation state server-side so each request sends only new messages, reducing request size and time to first token. Threads expire 5 minutes after the last request and are deleted within 1 hour of last use. The feature is available on the Claude API, Claude Platform on AWS, Claude Models on Google Cloud (Anthropic managed), and Claude in Microsoft Foundry.
